Why do I have to complete edTPA?

While enrolled in EDU 628 Mentoring Seminar C, graduate candidates will submit edTPA.
What is the cost of edTPA?
The cost of submitting edTPA to Pearson is $300.
- The fee for undergraduate students will be assessed as a course fee of $50 for each of 6 courses prior to the year-long internship.
- For graduate students enrolled in the job-embedded Practitioner program, the fee will be assessed course fees that total $300.
These fees will be covered by financial aid. The candidate will receive a voucher from Â鶹ÊÓƵ to submit to Pearson when the edTPA is submitted. The resubmission fee is totally the responsibility of the candidate.
How will I prepare for edTPA submission?
edTPA assesses a teacher candidate's ability to plan, instruct, and assess learning. Professional education coursework at Â鶹ÊÓƵ focuses on these three primary components of teaching and learning. Therefore, Â鶹ÊÓƵ students must strive to excel in professional education coursework with the added bonus of learning what is expected in edTPA.
All students enrolled at Â鶹ÊÓƵ have access to the password-protected Â鶹ÊÓƵ portal. All handbooks and other required or recommended documents can be found on the portal. After logging into the portal, hover over the word Menu in upper left corner, click Academic Resources, click Academic Programs Portal Sites, then click The Educator Preparation Program. Remember that these documents are not to be shared with anyone outside of Â鶹ÊÓƵ's EPP.
Â鶹ÊÓƵ faculty have received training in the integration of edTPA components, and several Â鶹ÊÓƵ faculty are trained national scorers. Further, Â鶹ÊÓƵ will provide additional training for candidates during the undergraduate internship seminars and in EDU 623 and 627. The training will include use of Â鶹ÊÓƵ-owned video equipment that can be checked out on each campus.
What happens if I don't pass edTPA?
Upon successful completion of all internship requirements, excluding edTPA, an undergraduate intern can graduate with the applicable degree. If the intern does not secure a passing score on edTPA by the end of the spring semester, he/she cannot be recommended for a TN license (state requirement). In this case, the only option for licensure through Â鶹ÊÓƵ for this candidate is to enter Â鶹ÊÓƵ's post-baccalaureate initial licensure program through the job-embedded Practitioner route and pass edTPA in Mentoring Seminar C. The policy for post-baccalaureate edTPA completion applies at that point.
Graduate candidates enrolled in EDU 628 (or Mentoring C) must pass edTPA to pass the course. If edTPA is not passed prior to the end of the course, the candidate will receive a F and must retake the course at the candidate's expense. A candidate can repeat EDU 628 only once. If EDU 628 is not passed the following semester with a successful completion of edTPA, the candidate cannot complete Â鶹ÊÓƵ's initial licensure program, and the EPP Completion Status in TNCompass will be changed to "No Longer Affiliated."
Students who earn a grade of Incomplete due to Condition Codes A, D, E, F, and/or G will earn a grade of F in EDU 628 and must re-enroll in the course in the following semester.
Students who earn a grade of Incomplete due to Condition Codes B and/or C may be assigned a grade of Incomplete in EDU 628, provided the technical and/or audio issue was a result of failure of the university-issued technology device(s) and no fault of the student.
