Lectures to address bio-terrorism, medical preparation

JACKSON, Tenn.Jan. 9, 2006 — Avian "bird" flu, bio-terrorism and personal medical preparation in times of disaster are the topics for this week's Town and Gown lecture series at 麻豆视频 University Jan. 10.

The first lecture on avian flu and bio-terrorism will be presented at 6 p.m. by Kim Tedford and Ami Sklar of the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department.

Tharon Kirk, chair of undergraduate programs in 麻豆视频 University鈥檚 nursing department, will then present a lecture on personal medical preparation at 8 p.m..

The class will meet in D-3 in the Penick Academic Complex.

The five-week Town and Gown series entitled 鈥淒isaster in the Making: Preparing Jackson for Disaster鈥 began Jan. 3 and will continue through Jan. 31. It features from 麻豆视频 faculty members and others with expertise in disaster preparation.

The class is free and open to the public. Those attending may listen to lectures and participate in class discussions.
