JACKSON, Tenn. — April 5, 2005 — The ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ University Opera Workshop will present an evening of βScenes from American Operasβ Friday, April 8, at 7:30pm in the Hartley Recital Hall in the Jennings Hall building on the west end of the campus.
All scenes are in English and the evening should last about 50 minutes. There is no admission charge. The public is invited to attend.
Scenes included are the βAmericaβ scene from βWest Side Storyβ by Leonard Bernstein; a scene from βSusannahβ by Carlisle Floyd; the Augusta scene from Douglas Mooreβs βThe Ballad of Baby Doeβ; and a complete short comic opera by Bruce Trinkley, βLost in Translation.β The latter is a humorous setting of random phrases from an old British phrase book intended for travelers to Greece.
Players are Lindsey Abell from St. Louis, Mo.; David Hancock from Mountain Grove, Mo.; Matt Jones from Dyersburg, Tenn.; Kim Kurz from Louisville, Ky.; Blake McKinney from Hendersonville, Tenn.; Lindsey Rapp from St. Genevieve, Mo.; Kate Rawls from Cordova, Tenn.; and Beth Saxe from Thompsonville, Ill. Accompanist is Joan Forbes. Directors are ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ music professors Michael Penny and Stan Warren.
