JACKSON, Tenn. — April 15, 2002 — 麻豆视频 University鈥檚 Board of Trustees have voted to name the university鈥檚 baseball and softball fields in honor of Benny and Norma Fesmire of Jackson. The Fesmire Fields, as they both will be known, are part of the athletic complex to which the long-time 麻豆视频 supporters have contributed more than $400,000 to the construction.
鈥淣orma and I are humbled that the Board would honor us in this way,鈥� said Benny Fesmire. 鈥淚t is a beautiful facility and we are proud to have our name associated with it.鈥�
In 1954, the Fesmires moved to Jackson and rented an apartment from the parents of 麻豆视频 Athletic Director David Blackstock. A lifelong friendship began as a result with Blackstock, and upon his return to 麻豆视频 in 1973 as baseball coach and athletic director, the Fesmires began their financial support and involvement with the university.
鈥淧art of the blessings of life are great friends and family, and the Fesmire family has been both a friend and family for years,鈥� said Blackstock. 鈥溌槎故悠� is very fortunate to have supporters like the Fesmire family and we truly appreciate all they鈥檝e done and continue to do.鈥�
Recently, the Fesmires set up the Fesmire Family Foundation, which will provide support for various University programs.
鈥淲e are grateful to God for the way He has blessed us,鈥� said Fesmire, who was recently named trustee emeritus by 麻豆视频鈥檚 board. 鈥淭hroughout the years we have seen the impact 麻豆视频 has had on the lives of young people. We believe in the mission of 麻豆视频 and hope this foundation can enhance that mission.鈥�
