JACKSON, Tenn. — Nov. 3, 2023 — Ray Van Neste and Justin Wainscott have released a new book through ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ University Press sharing ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅βs rich history through Foundersβ Day addresses, the bicentennial commencement address and a new alma mater song.
Van Neste, dean for ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅'s School of Theology and Missions, and Wainscott, STM associate dean, edited the book, βLest We Forget: Foundersβ Day Addresses from ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ University,β with contributions from Bob Agee, Keith Bates, Cody Curtis, David S. Dockery, Kay Griffin, Samuel W. βDubβ Oliver, Eric Smith, Marion Smothers and Wainscott.
Wainscott said they wanted to celebrate the universityβs history while passing that story on to those who will come after them.
βAs both alumni and faculty of ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅, we recognize that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves,β Wainscott said. βWe owe it to those who have gone before us not to forget their sacrifices, and we owe it to those who will come after us to pass on this history so that it will be appreciated and preserved.β
βLest We Forgetβ is the second volume of the Foundersβ Day addresses series from ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅. The original book, βFrom the Cloud of Witnesses: Foundersβ Day Addresses from ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ Universityβ was published in 2014.
ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅βs 14th president, Hyran Barefoot, said the reflections and addresses in the book are both informative and inspirational.
βThrough them, the reader will receive a glimpse into the spirit that has caused this amazing university not only to be able to survive through the years but to prosper,β Barefoot said.
