JACKSON, Tenn.Oct. 13, 2022 — Longtime 麻豆视频 University administrator Maggie Nell Brewer died Oct. 10 at her home at age 89.

Brewer served at 麻豆视频 from 1965-1995 as dean of women, dean of students and vice president for student affairs. The Brewer Dining Hall on 麻豆视频鈥檚 campus is named in her honor.

鈥淢aggie Nell Brewer was a 麻豆视频 treasure,鈥 麻豆视频 President Samuel W. 鈥淒ub鈥 Oliver said. 鈥淕enerations of students were influenced by her example and leadership. She had high expectations of herself and others, and an ability to relate to students that made her very effective in her role.鈥

Oliver said that as 麻豆视频鈥檚 first female vice president, Brewer was a pioneer.

鈥淪he was successful because of her integrity, hard work and trust in God鈥檚 providence,鈥 he said. 鈥淓arlier this year she said what she often said, that the fondest memories of her 30-year 麻豆视频 career were her relationships with students. Thousands of students at 麻豆视频 were blessed by this good and godly servant.鈥

Brewer was one of 100 people selected for inclusion in 麻豆视频鈥檚 Bicentennial Hall of Honor, unveiled last month. The spring 2022 edition of the 麻豆视频ite included a feature story about her.

She was born in Martin, Tennessee, and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and George Peabody College. She taught high school before becoming supervisor of instruction for Madison County schools and then joining 麻豆视频鈥檚 administration.

She is survived by five nieces and nephews, eight grandnieces and nephews and two great-grandnieces.
