GERMANTOWN, Tenn. — Oct. 11, 2011 — ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ University Germantown will hold a simulation event Oct. 19 entitled βAcute Brain Injury: An End of Life Scenario.β
The simulation will feature a βpatientβ being flown to campus, where hospital wing personnel will deliver the individual to ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ University nursing students, who will stabilize the patient. The patient will identified as brain dead and eligible for organ donation.
Brent Manseau, of the Mid-South Transplant Foundation, will speak to the group of ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ University students about their role in organ donation.
βThe purpose of this simulation event is to provide an opportunity for students and community members to participate in a situation that is real life,β said Pat Keene, professor of nursing at ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ University Germantown. βParticipants will see the experts deal with a family who has not only faced a tragedy with a car crash, but then must decide whether organ donation is an option for them.β
The simulation will involve about 60 students from ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅βs Germantown and Jackson campuses and will run from 8 a.m.-noon on the campus at 2745 Hacks Cross Road in Germantown.
