GERMANTOWN, Tenn.Oct. 11, 2011 — ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ University Germantown will hold a simulation event Oct. 19 entitled β€œAcute Brain Injury: An End of Life Scenario.”

The simulation will feature a β€œpatient” being flown to campus, where hospital wing personnel will deliver the individual to ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ University nursing students, who will stabilize the patient. The patient will identified as brain dead and eligible for organ donation.

Brent Manseau, of the Mid-South Transplant Foundation, will speak to the group of ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ University students about their role in organ donation.

β€œThe purpose of this simulation event is to provide an opportunity for students and community members to participate in a situation that is real life,” said Pat Keene, professor of nursing at ΒιΆΉΚΣΖ΅ University Germantown. β€œParticipants will see the experts deal with a family who has not only faced a tragedy with a car crash, but then must decide whether organ donation is an option for them.”

The simulation will involve about 60 students from ΒιΆΉΚΣơ’s Germantown and Jackson campuses and will run from 8 a.m.-noon on the campus at 2745 Hacks Cross Road in Germantown.
