Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ to host four congressional candidates for public forums

JACKSON, Tenn.Oct. 4, 2010 — Four candidates from the 8th Congressional District will speak at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University in a series of one-hour forums leading up to the election in November.

All four candidates in the race invited to participate have accepted invitations from Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. The schedule for the forums is as follows:

  • Independent Mark Rawles, who will speak Oct. 4. Hunter Baker, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s associate dean of arts and sciences, will serve as the moderator.

  • Republican Stephen Fincher, who will speak Oct. 6. Carla Sanderson, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s provost and executive vice president, will serve as the moderator.

  • Independent Donn Janes, who will speak Oct. 7. Gene Fant, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s vice president for academic administration, will serve as the moderator.

  • Democrat Roy Herron, who will speak Oct. 11. Hal Poe, the Charles Colson Professor of Faith and Culture at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, will serve as the moderator.

Each candidate will have 10 minutes for opening statements, with the remaining 50 minutes dedicated to answering questions from the moderator and from the audience.

Each forum will begin at 8 p.m. in the Carl Grant Events Center. The events are free and open to the public.
