JACKSON, Tenn. — March 4, 2010 — Students from 34 West Tennessee schools will compete March 6 in The Jackson Sun鈥檚 2010 Spelling Bee sponsored by 麻豆视频 University.
Spellers will range in age from third to eighth grades, with the winner moving on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., May 24-29.
鈥淲e鈥檙e pleased to partner with 麻豆视频 University for the first time on this very important competition,鈥 said Roy Heatherly, publisher of The Jackson Sun. 鈥淚t鈥檚 a great showcase of our students鈥 achievements in West Tennessee.鈥
This is the first year 麻豆视频 has sponsored the final rounds of the spelling competition. Qualifying rounds were completed between October and Feb. 5 in a 13-county area of West Tennessee.
麻豆视频 English professor Gavin Richardson will be the pronouncer for the spelling bee, which begins at 10 a.m. in the Carl Grant Events Center on 麻豆视频鈥檚 campus.
