John D. Foubert, Ph.D. teaches courses on higher education research and critical issues in higher education in Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s Higher Education Ed.D. program. In a collateral assignment, Dr. Foubert serves as The Highly Qualified Expert for Sexual Assault Prevention for the U.S. Army. He regularly visits the Pentagon complex in Washington, D.C. to interface with military leaders who seek to end the problem of sexual misconduct in the Army. Dr. Foubert founded the national nonprofit organization, One in Four, an organization that worked for 20 years to apply research to rape prevention programs on college campuses, in communities, and in the military.
Dr. Foubert earned his undergraduate degree with a double major in Psychology and Sociology from the College of William and Mary, his Master’s degree in Psychology from the University of Richmond, and his Ph.D. in College Student Personnel Administration from the University of Maryland at College Park.
Dr. Foubert is an interdisciplinary scholar with over 50 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Foubert has written seven books about the prevention of sexual violence and two about managing life in college residence halls. His 10th book is titled How Pornography Harms: What Today’s Teens, Young Adults, Parents and Pastors Need to Know.
Dr. Foubert was the first scholar to document a reduction in sexual violence resulting from a prevention program. He has given approximately 300 professional presentations to conferences, universities, community and military organizations worldwide. Dr. Foubert has testified Congress and has been called upon by the White House and all 4 branches of the U.S. Military for his expertise in rape prevention. He has been featured in media including CNN, NPR, World Magazine, The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, and U.S. News and World Report.
