Scholarship
What does it mean to be a scholar? What is the nature of scholarship?
The Department of Mathematics, by following a model advocated by Ernest Boyer in his seminal work entitled Scholarship Reconsidered: Priorities of the Professoriate, encourages its faculty members to be engaged in four types of scholarly endeavors:
- The scholarship of discovery.
- The scholarship of integration.
- The scholarship of application.
- The scholarship of teaching.
"We need scholars who not only skillfully explore the frontiers of knowledge, but also integrate ideas, connect thought to action, and inspire students."- Ernest Boyer
