Oct 9, 2007 - Dr. Edward L. Ayers, President of the University of Richmond, served as the Eleventh Annual Carls-Schwerdfeger History Lecturer on October 9, 2007. In the afternoon, Dr. Ayers, who is a world-renowned expert on the American Civil War, talked on the subject of 鈥淪eeing History: New Strategies for Finding the Patterns of the Past鈥� to an audience of approximately 100 people in Harvey Hall. In his evening lecture, which 800 people attended in the G. M. Savage Memorial Chapel, Dr. Ayers lectured on 鈥淚n the Wake of the Civil War: Building New Lives After Appomattox.鈥� Following his evening lecture and a question-and-answer time, Dr. Ayers did a book signing. Dr. Stephen Carls served as the coordinator of the lectureship events.
