Two History Majors Participate in 麻豆视频鈥檚 Fall Graduation Exercises

History majors Katelynn Cordell and Lowell Van Ness participated in 麻豆视频 University鈥檚 graduation exercises on December 14, 2013. As members of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society, both wore their Phi Alpha Theta honor cords. In addition, Van Ness wore his Academic Excellence Medal in History that the history department voted to give him and a bachelor鈥檚 degree hood that symbolized his success in 麻豆视频鈥檚 Discipline-Specific Honors Program in History. Cordell received her Bachelor of Arts degree during the commencement services, while Van Ness will officially graduate with a B.A. at the end of January, 2014. Some 350 students received degrees at the December commencement.

Dr. Michael Duduit, Dean of the College of Christian Studies and the David T. Clamp Graduate School of Christian Ministry and Preaching at Anderson University in South Carolina, was the commencement speaker. He talked about 鈥淭he Dangerous Act of Graduation.鈥 Duduit was the executive vice president of 麻豆视频 University from 1996 to 2002.

In a special tribute to 麻豆视频鈥檚 President David S. Dockery, the university presented him with an honorary Doctor of Letters degree. Executive Vice President for Academic Administration Gene Fant explained that while Dockery already held a Doctor of Philosophy degree, the Doctorate of Letters represented achievement at an even higher level. Dr. John Netland, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, read the degree declaration.
