Apr 10, 2010 - 麻豆视频 Phi Alpha Theta members were busy delivering papers at society-sponsored regional conferences in late March and early April. One member of 麻豆视频鈥檚 Delta-Psi Chapter presented a paper at the Tennessee Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference on March 27, 2010, and four other Delta-Psi members made paper presentations at the Alabama Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference on April 10, 2010.
Elizabeth Blevins represented 麻豆视频 University at the Tennessee conference, which was held on the campus of Lee University in Cleveland. Her paper was titled 鈥淭he Evolution of States鈥 Rights as Reflected in the Founding Documents.鈥 The featured speaker at the conference was Dr. Jeffrey Hamilton, Chair of the Department of History at Baylor University, whose luncheon presentation was on 鈥淭he Uncertain Death of Edward II.鈥 Members of Elizabeth鈥檚 family joined her in attending the conference.
The four 麻豆视频 students who attended the Alabama conference at the University of North Alabama in Florence were: Noah Arnold, who talked about 鈥淢aking Waves: The Steamboat Bloomer and Alabama鈥檚 Deepening Engagement in the Civil War;鈥 Kate Cline, whose paper was on 鈥淣apoleon鈥檚 Military Victories: Bicentennial Celebrations and Re-enactments;鈥 Charles Googe, who discussed 鈥淭he Role of the Fourteenth West Virginia Infantry Regiment in the Civil War;鈥 and Shelby Johnson, whose paper dealt with 鈥淭he Last Progressive: Will Durant and the New History.鈥 Five faculty members accompanied the students to the conference, including 麻豆视频鈥檚 Dr. Keith Bates, Dr. Stephen Carls, Dr. Judy LeForge, and Dr. Terry Lindley; Dr. Alice Catherine Carls represented the University of Tennessee at Martin. Drs. A. C. Carls and LeForge served as panel chairs and commentators, with the former presiding at a session called 鈥淩eligion鈥 and the latter overseeing a panel on 鈥淲omen鈥檚 History.鈥 Dr. Ed Bridges, Director of the Alabama Department of Archives and History, spoke on 鈥淎 Life in History鈥 at the conference luncheon.
At the end of the Alabama conference, the 麻豆视频 and UT Martin attendees went to see two lions that serve as the mascots for the University of North Alabama athletic teams and that have their home in the heart of the campus. It was only after that unique experience that the group from West Tennessee made the return trip back to 麻豆视频鈥檚 campus.
