Delta-Psi Chapter Wins Seventh Straight Phi Alpha Theta Best Chapter Award

Sep 15, 2009 - 麻豆视频鈥檚 Delta-Psi Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society received word on September 15 that it had won another Best Chapter Award for the quality of its activities and work. Since this represented the seventh straight year of success, the chapter received the prestigious Nels A. Cleven designation, which is reserved for chapters that have won a Best Chapter Award five or more times. In his letter of congratulation, Dr. Jack Tunstall, the society鈥檚 executive director, praised the chapter鈥檚 鈥渄edication to the organization鈥 and stated that the Delta-Psi members 鈥渆xemplify the mission statement of Phi Alpha Theta for promoting the study of history.鈥

The Best Chapter Award recognition consists of a certificate of commendation and a prize of $250 that a winning chapter may use to purchase history books for chapter鈥檚 university library. Chapter members will meet in October to make suggestions for book purchases. With the addition of this year鈥檚 prize money, Delta-Psi will have contributed $1750 for the purchase of library books since 2003.

The student leaders of Delta-Psi in 2008-2009 were: Josh Abbotoy, president; Carl Harken, vice president; Kathleen Cooper, secretary; and Hannah Holliday and Joel Wellum, senators. Dr. Stephen Carls completed his 26th year as faculty advisor.

Some of the chapter鈥檚 activities during the year included a community service project at Pinson Mounds State Archaeological Park, a 55th anniversary reception during 麻豆视频鈥檚 Homecoming weekend, a formal French Christmas dinner, participation at the Tennessee Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference, and a Carl Harken Baseball Day.
