May 1, 2009 - Graduating history major Hannah Holliday received two awards at 麻豆视频 University鈥檚 Annual Awards Day convocation on May 1, 2009. The first recognition came when Dr. Stephen Carls, chair of the history department, presented her with the academic excellence medal in the history major. Criteria for the award involve a student completing at least15 residence hours in history, earning a minimum 3.5 GPA in the discipline, and being active in the department鈥檚 extracurricular events. Hannah had a 4.0 GPA in her 麻豆视频 history courses, and she participated in many department events during her four years at the university.
Hannah also received the first place award in the department鈥檚 Dr. James Alex Baggett History Research Paper Competition at the convocation. Dr. Carls presented her with a first-place certificate and a $70 check for her paper entitled 鈥淎 Refusal of Reform: Georgia Baptists and Integration.鈥� Papers for the competition were judged on how much a student used primary sources, the originality of the student鈥檚 topic, the historical depth and quality of the paper, writing style, appropriate footnotes or endnotes, and a correctly done bibliography.
