Mar 6, 2009 - Kathleen Cooper, a senior history major, won second place in the Jo Helen Imani Beard Civil Rights History Paper Competition that the history department of the University of Tennessee at Martin sponsored at the department鈥檚 Ninth Annual Civil Rights Conference (February 20-27, 2009). Kathleen鈥檚 paper, which dealt with a Negro League baseball team in Memphis, was entitled 鈥淭he Memphis Red Sox: Barely Hanging On, 1947-1960.鈥 Dr. Alice-Catherine Carls, the Tom Elam Distinguished Professor of History at UTM, presented the second-place certificate to Kathleen in a special ceremony at 麻豆视频 University on March 6. Also included in the award was a check for $200.
