Federal and State Grants and Scholarships Overview

EDGE Student Grants

Scholarships and Grants are funds that do not have to be paid back. Grants and scholarships are available from both the federal and state governments to help qualified students. In addition, states may have scholarship programs.

To apply for any of the following, all students must file the FAFSA and follow the other Financial Assistance Application Steps. Students are encouraged to file the FAFSA by February 15 to establish their eligibility for need-based aid, as well as contact their state Department of Education to inquire about state grants and scholarships.

Alternative Loans

This is a non-federal educational loan available through private lenders. The loan is borrowed by the student but generally requires a co-signer. The interest rate is variable and is set by the individual lender. Information regarding lenders that offer alternative loans is available at .

How to Apply

Use to apply for a school certified loan directly with the lender. Loan amounts are determined based on Cost of Attendance (COA) minus any financial aid the student may receive during the loan period. Loan disbursements are made to Â鶹ÊÓƵ University and will be divided equally among all terms certified. This school certified loan generally has better benefits than the non-school certified loan.

Non-school certified loans (Paid directly to the student) are available with most lenders. For loan options, you may contact your lender of choice to apply or go to for more information.

EDGE Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress for Financial Aid Eligibility

Overview

Â鶹ÊÓƵ University has established minimum standards of “satisfactory academic progress” (SAP) for Â鶹ÊÓƵ EDGE students receiving financial assistance. Progress will be evaluated at the end of fall, spring, and summer semesters to ensure that the student is on track to obtain the certificate offered through the EDGE program. These standards apply to all federal and state grants and loans. These financial aid standards of academic progress are separate from, and in addition to, academic standards required by the University for continued enrollment, and are published along with the general financial aid SAP policy.

The criteria used to define academic progress for purposes of determining eligibility for federal financial aid are Cumulative Grade Point Average, Pace of Completion and Maximum Time Frame.

Grade Point Average

  • Â鶹ÊÓƵ EDGE students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 1.5. Students who fail to meet this standard will be placed on Financial Aid Warning and will have a conditional period of one regular semester during which they may continue to receive aid.
  • These GPA requirements do not include remedial or developmental courses. (Revised 5/1/14)

Pace of Completion

  • Â鶹ÊÓƵ EDGE students must successfully complete a minimum of 67% of credit hours attempted. To successfully complete means to receive a final grade of A, B, C, D, or P.
  • Pace of Completion is calculated by dividing the cumulative number of hours completed by the cumulative number of hours attempted.
  • Transfer credits accepted by Â鶹ÊÓƵ count as both hours attempted and hours completed. Courses dropped after the last day to drop without academic record for the enrollment period count as hours attempted. Audited classes offered through the Â鶹ÊÓƵ EDGE program will be included in hours attempted. Credits earned through testing are not counted.
  • Undergraduate students who have not yet completed twenty four credit hours and do not meet the 67% Pace of Completion requirement will be placed on Financial Aid Warning and will have a conditional period of one regular semester during which they may continue to receive aid.

Maximum Time Frame

  • Students must complete their degree program within 150% of the published length of their degree program. The Â鶹ÊÓƵ EDGE program’s published length will consist of 48 credit hours, to be completed in 2 academic years; the maximum time frame will be 72 credit hours, to be completed in 3 academic years.
  • Transfer credits and credits for courses repeated are included in hours attempted. Audited classes offered through the Â鶹ÊÓƵ EDGE program will be included in hours attempted. Credits earned through testing are not counted.

Other Satisfactory Academic Progress policies

The process for determining satisfactory progress and notification of failed progress for Â鶹ÊÓƵ EDGE students will follow the general financial aid SAP policy. Students may appeal the denial of their aid through the Appeal Process described in this policy.

Policies covering incomplete grades, repeated courses, withdrawal from classes, transfer of credit and transfer students, readmitted students, as well as reinstatement of eligibility and completing the Â鶹ÊÓƵ EDGE program without obtaining the certificate will occur in accordance with Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s general SAP policy for financial aid.
