UNION BASEBALL PLAYERS NAMED ALL-AMERICAN

Jackson, TN--The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University baseball program was honored last week when three of their players earned NAIA All-American honors for the 1998 season. Jeff Rowland, the Bulldog's thirdbaseman from Camden, was first team All- American. Ed Grammer, a righthander from Ripley, was named second team, and Kevin Overcash, an outfielder from Collierville, earned honorable mention honors.

Rowland finished the season hitting .429 with 22 homeruns and was named TranSouth Player of the Year, Mid-South Region Player of the Year, NCCAA Player of the Year, and Mid-East Region Player of the Year. Rowland was also named All- TranSouth Conference, All-Mid-South Region, NCCAA All-Mid-East Region, and NCCAA First Team All-American. Rowland presently holds two of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's baseball records-Longest Hitting Streak (22) and Total Bases in a Season (157).

Grammer finished the season with a 12-2 record and a 2.92 earned run average. Grammer also earned NCCAA First Team All-American honors along with All-TranSouth Conference, All-Mid-South Region, NCCAA All-Mid-East Region, and TranSouth Conference Tournament Most Valuable Pitcher.

Overcash ended the 1998 season hitting .387 for the Bulldogs. Overcash now holds Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's records for Most Triples in a Season (9), Most Runs Scored in a Season (77), Most Singles in a Season (70), Most Stolen Bases in a Game (5), Most Consecutive Stolen Bases (31) and Most Stolen Bases in a Season (56). Overcash was named All-TranSouth Conference, and All-Mid-South Region.

The Bulldogs completed their season with a 42-20 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the Mid-South Regional Tournament.
