UNION SIGNS DEMETRIUS GOLDEN

Jackson, TN--The Â鶹ÊÓƵ University men's basketball program added another recruit to its program last week. The Bulldogs signed 6'5" Demetrius Golden from Memphis, Tennessee, to an athletic scholarship for next season.

The guard prepped at Whitehaven High School where he averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds. While at Whitehaven, Golden was named all-district, all-region, and honorable mention all-state. Upon graduation Golden signed with Alcorn State where he redshirted his first season. Transferring to Dyersburg State Community College for one season, Golden averaged 12 points, nine rebounds, and six assists as the Eagles point guard.

According to head coach Ralph Turner, "Demetrius will give us some much needed height and athleticism at the guard position and is also a tremendous passer. Both of these attributes will help us to become a better team in 1997-98."

Golden joins Memphis' Drew Murphy and Minnesota's D. J. Dahl in playing for the Bulldogs next season.
