Jackson, TN--Four Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University softball players received various honors this week. Junior second baseman Terri Estes was named TranSouth Conference and Mid-South Region Player of the Week. Estes helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 4-0 record for the week. In those four contests, Estes went 7 for 14 with 4 runs, 5 RBI's, 1 triple, 1 double, and a batting average of .500. In the second game of the doubleheader with Lee College, she scored the tying run in the fourth inning and had the game winning hit in the bottom of the eighth.
Junior pitcher Lynde Capogreco was named TranSouth Conference and Mid- South Region Pitcher of the Week. On the week Capogreco was 2-0 with a seven inning shutout over Freed-Hardeman University and an eight inning shutout over Lee College. Capogreco gave up only 5 hits in the 15 innings and recorded 23 strikeouts. On the season Capogreco has had 10 shutouts and 9 games with 9 or more strikeouts. This is the second time this season Capogreco has earned these honors.
Capogreco joins teammates Emma Hernandez and Tina Spivey in additional recognition this week when they were all named to the 1997 NCCAA All-District 2 Softball Team.
