GHOLSTON NAMED NCCAA ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jackson, TN--Â鶹ÊÓƵ University Lady Bulldog, Celestine Gholston was named the National Christian College Athletic Association's Student Athlete of the Week for January 25-February 1, 1998. The 6-0 forward from Memphis scored 43 points on the week and pulled down 23 rebounds. She also added 4 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal to her statistics on the week. Gholston shot 16-of-24 (.667) from the field and 11-of-14 (.785) from the free-throw line.
With her 24 points and 12 rebounds in Saturday's game against Berry College, Gholston earned her 12th double-double on the season and her seventh in a row. Gholston is presently leading the Lady Bulldogs in rebounding with 11.1 rebounds per game and is averaging 13.7 points per game. Currently, Gholston is second in the TranSouth Conference in rebounding and sixth in the conference in field goal percentage (.493).
This will be the second time this season Gholston has earned NCCAA honors. She was named Athlete of the Week for November 10-17, 1997 and was also named TranSouth Player of the Week January 12-17, 1998.
