Jackson, Tenn. - The Omega Lambda Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi was initiated
Sunday, Oct. 17, in an afternoon induction ceremony held in the Coburn Dining Room of
the Barefoot Student Â鶹ÊÓƵ Building at Â鶹ÊÓƵ University.
Kappa Delta Pi is an honor society in education, tracing its roots to an education
society founded in 1909 at the University of Illinois. The actual founding of Kappa Delta
Pi was in 1911. With a purpose to "promote excellence in and recognize outstanding
contributions to education," the honor society requires members to hold a cumulative
GPA of 3.5 or above and is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.
Dr. Janette Rogers, President-Elect of Kappa Delta Pi, conducted the ceremony
chartering the Â鶹ÊÓƵ chapter. Rogers is a professor of education at Northeastern State
University in Tahlequah, Okl.
37 charter members were inducted into the local chapter. Of these, approximately
one-third are from Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Germantown campus, including both the vice-president and
the treasurer. Dr. Ralph Leverett, professor of special education at Â鶹ÊÓƵ will serve as
counselor. Â鶹ÊÓƵ's chapter is one of almost 600 chapters internationally.
