Jackson, Tenn. – September 29, 2000 – Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University's
Office of Student Services will host "Leading U," a leadership
summit and banquet for student leaders on Monday, Oct. 2 from 7 - 9 p.m.,
at Englewood Baptist. The leadership rally will be directed to more than
100 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ students in leadership positions.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ President David S. Dockery will be speaking on his vision for
student leadership on campus. Also speaking will be Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Communication
Arts Department Chair Kina Mallard, who will give advice on how to deal
with conflict management, and how to communicate with one's
administrators. There will also be a proactive session where the students
split into roundtables to make the session more personal, which will allow
them to participate in role-playing and case studies that will equip them
for the "real" world,"
"This summit offers student leaders a time to come together and
develop skills so that they can in turn teach others leadership,"
said Kimberly Thornbury, dean of students at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. "It also fosters
a sense of community, and is an encouragement to all seeking or
experiencing leadership positions."
