JACKSON, May 21-- Kenneth Hartley, University professor of music and director of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Singers and Proclamation, was named the University's 1995 Faculty of the Year during Awards Day festivities.
Hartley, who joined Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's faculty in 1969, was nominated for the honor through a student, faculty and staff vote. He was chosen from a pool of finalists by a joint committee of students, faculty and administration.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Faculty of the Year award is presented annually to the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University educator who demonstrates outstanding characteristics in the classroom, the community and the church.
"Dr. Hartley is most deserving of this honor," Howard Newell, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's vice president for academic affairs, said. "He is an outstanding faculty member and person, as well as a devoted servant of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University."
Hartley is active throughout the community of Jackson as a member of the Jackson Symphony League and the Rotary Club. He has served many West Tennessee churches as interim minister music and youth during his tenure at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.
He holds a bachelor of science in music education from the University of Missouri, a master of sacred music from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and a doctor of education from Florida State University.
