UNION STUDENTS ATTEND NATIONAL MEETING IN SAN FRANCISCO

Jackson, Tenn. — Two Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University students attended the 213th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Francisco April 12-16.

Lynde Capogreco, a junior at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, presented a paper titled, "Potential Hydrogen-Bond Formation in the 2-Halomethyl Derivatives of Ethyl-1, 2-dimethyl-4, 5-diphenylpyrrole-3-carboxylate." Capogreco completed her research at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ in the summer of 1996 under the mentorship of Professor Charles Baldwin.

Dan Leatherwood, a Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ senior, presented a paper titled "The Synthesis of a Tetralin-Based Anti-Mitotic Agent." Leatherwood completed his research in the Undergraduate Research Program at Baylor University under the mentorship of Professor K.G. Pinney.

The two students represented the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, and were accompanied by Associate Professor Randy Johnston.
