Bach's Lunch series in new venue

Jackson, Tenn. - Â鶹ÊÓƵ University has initiated a new time and place for its annual Bach's Lunch Recital Series. This year the popular series will be held in the Coburn Dining Room in Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Student Â鶹ÊÓƵ Building at 12:15 p.m. The series is designed to give people an opportunity to eat lunch while enjoying 30 minutes of music.

Bach' s Lunch Recital Series was initiated by the Â鶹ÊÓƵ University Music Faculty in 1990. The idea grew out of an informal discussion about the European church tradition of offering organ recitals at 12 p.m. on Wednesdays during the Lenten season. Music faculty members decided to install the Bach's Lunch Recital Series to keep up with this historic tradition. The performances feature Â鶹ÊÓƵ faculty members and student ensembles.

Terry McRoberts, professor of music, currently coordinates the series. The series includes not only the four concerts at Â鶹ÊÓƵ but an additional four concerts at First Baptist Church in Paris. The schedule for the series is as follows:

Wednesday, March 3; Thursday, March 4: Proclamation and University Handbells

Wednesday, March 10; Thursday, March 11: Pianist Terry McRoberts and singer Michael Penny

Wednesday, March 17; Thursday, March 18: Singers Dwight and Dianne Gatwood joined by singer Don Martin

Wednesday, March 24; Thursday, March 25: Soprano Karen Dale and Joseph Blass, bass

There is no charge for admission. For more information, please call the Â鶹ÊÓƵ University Department of Music at (901) 661-5345.
