JACKSON, February 23-- Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University's board of trustees assembled for their spring meeting today, approving the University's 1996-97 budget.
The operating budget, a record $19,785,711, represents a $1,098,341 increase over the 1995-96 budget of $18,687,370. Trustees also approved a 1996-97 capital funds budget of $1,204,680, a $23,500 increase over last year.
In other business, trustees formally dedicated several facilities in Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's newly-remodeled Penick Academic Complex (PAC). Approximately 25,000 square feet of PAC space were vacated following completion of the Student Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Building in 1994.
The vacant space was extensively remodeled, creating several new student and/or academic services while expanding others. Highlights of the renovation include:
The department of art, featuring faculty offices, an expanded gallery, and studio space for 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, and graphic design.
Natural sciences space, including one biology laboratory, five new chemistry/physics labs, plus two large tiered lecture rooms equipped with advanced media/instructional technology.
Humanities area, with office space and two seminar rooms for the departments of Christian studies, English, history and political science, and languages. Furthermore, a computer-equipped language lab has been added for French, Spanish, Hebrew and Greek courses.
The department of mathematics/computer science, featuring departmental offices, a conference room and a multimedia seminar room.
Wellness Center, a state-of-the-art fitness facility for students, faculty and staff. In addition to the numerous exercise and weight machines available, the center features a classroom for health-related instruction.
In addition, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's activities area features an expanded game room for student recreation.
Other expansion provided additional general classrooms and an enlarged library.
