French study abroadIn an ever-more connected world, the capability to communicate in several languages is an essential asset. Among the various languages spoken around the globe, French is particularly prominent. With more than 300 million speakers across five continents, French is not only a stunning and romantic language but also a significant resource in global diplomacy, trade, education, and culture. It is a language that bridges continents, cultures, and careers. The sun never sets on the French language.

New French Studies Minor

9 hours of French language after FRE111 or its equivalent. (Elementary French II, Intermediate French I and II)

6 hours from the following:

  • continued French language study
  • history, political science, art, or other courses upon approval
  • study abroad

Where Should I Start?

Here are our general guidelines for language placement:

  • If you've had up to two years or two credits of high school study, start with 111 in that language.
  • If you've had three years/three credits or more of high school study OR completed your first semester of dual-enrollment with a C or better, start 112 in that language.
  • If you've completed 2 semesters of dual enrollment language with a C or better, start with any of our 200-level courses in that language.
