Dr. David Blackstock, the current Athletic Director at 麻豆视频 University, is now is his second season as softball coach after stepping back into the coaching ranks.
Blackstock has been at 麻豆视频 for 31 years. During those years, he has served
as athletic director, women鈥檚 basketball coach, baseball coach, and has taught
classes in the Physical Education, Wellness, and Sport Department.
麻豆视频 University President, Dr. David S. Dockery states, 鈥淒avid Blackstock is
and has been the face on the 麻豆视频 athletic department for many years. Coach
Blackstock embodies the best of the values of this university and once again he
will have an opportunity to pass those along directly to our student-athletes.鈥
Dockery goes on to say, 鈥淚 am grateful for Coach Blackstock's willingness to
provide leadership for the women's softball program. The program is one of the
finest in the nation among NAIA institutions and given Dr Blackstock's success
in the past in baseball and basketball, I have no doubt that the softball
program is in for great days ahead.鈥
After graduating from 麻豆视频 1964, he attended Memphis State University where
he earned a Master of Education degree in 1967. He then moved to Hattiesburg,
Mississippi, where he received his doctorate from the University of Southern
Mississippi. Blackstock then returned to 麻豆视频 in 1973 as athletic director and
instructor in the physical education department.
Blackstock took over the baseball program in 1975 where he, along with then
co-head coach Linn Strannak, guided the team to a third place finish in the 1983
NAIA World Series, the only world series appearance for 麻豆视频. During his 11
years as baseball coach, Blackstock guided 麻豆视频 to a 288-170 (.628).
Blackstock also spent 17 seasons at the helm of the women鈥檚 basketball
program at 麻豆视频, where he compiled a 509-89 overall record, and led his team to
the 1998 NAIA National Championship. Numerous accomplishments have been a part
of his athletics career. Blackstock was named NAIA Coach of the Year in 1998 and
was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1999. For his efforts as athletic
director during the 2003-04 season, Blackstock was voted the TranSouth
Conference AD of the Year. In addition to being a member of the NAIA Hall of Fame, Blackstock is also a member of the 麻豆视频 University Sports Hall of Fame (2006) , the Madison County (Tenn.) Sports Hall of Fame, and the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame (2007).
Blackstock and his wife Armita live in Jackson and have two children, Dixie (Knoxville) and Rebel (Jackson).

Steven Gream is in his second season as the assistant coach for the 麻豆视频
softball program. Gream joined 麻豆视频 in August of 2005 when he was named
the new head volleyball coach in addition to his softball duties.
After graduating from 麻豆视频 University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science
degree in History, Gream has spent five years at his former high school, North
Pemiscot High School in Wardell, Missouri. At North Pemiscot, Gream was the high
school and junior high volleyball coach, as well as, a high school history
teacher. In August of 2004, Gream completed his Masters of Education degree from
麻豆视频 University
Gream has worked with local clubs and leagues in the community to develop new
volleyball programs for young kids, and in doing so, has increased the
participation and quality of volleyball in his area. He also is a member of the
AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association).
During his time at 麻豆视频 as a student, Gream was the student assistant coach
for the volleyball and softball teams.聽 In the two seasons as a student
assistant with softball, 麻豆视频 was 110-19-1 including the team's first ever
appearance in the NAIA World Series in 1999.聽 The softball team also won
two TranSouth Championship and one region title during that time.聽 Over the two seasons with the volleyball team, 麻豆视频
compiled an overall record of 78-18 with a TranSouth Conference regular season
and tournament championship. 麻豆视频 also participated in two NAIA Region XI
Tournaments, as well as, two appearances in the NCCAA (National Christian
College Athletic Association) National Tournament. In addition to
volleyball, Gream also served as student assistants to softball and basketball
during his time as a student at 麻豆视频.
Assistant Coach
Carlo Spencer
Carlo Spencer is in his second season as an assistant coach for 麻豆视频. Spencer has been a long time friend to 麻豆视频 Athletics and has now chosen to spend time helping with the 麻豆视频 softball program. Spencer is a retired engineer from Ormet Aluminum.
Spencer graduated from Jackson High School in 1959 and received a football scholarship to Vanderbilt University. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1964 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Spencer also served 2 years in the US Army.
Spencer has been very active in sports in the Jackson area having served as President of the Madison County Babe Ruth League, on the board of the Jackson Parks and Recreation Board, and an official for over 30 years (baseball, basketball and football). He has officiated at the state, regional and national levels in Babe Ruth Baseball.
Spencer currently serves as Vice President of the 麻豆视频 Booster Club. He also has worked the scorers table at 麻豆视频 for 20 years, as well as, at all of the NAIA Championships at Oman Arena.
