Dr. David Blackstock, the current Athletic Director at 鶹Ƶ University, will step back into the coaching ranks once again. For the 2006 season, Blackstock will take over the softball head coaching position that was vacated by the resignation of Brian Dunn earlier this season.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with such a great group of young women,” states Dr. Blackstock. “Coach Dunn has built an unbelievable program here at 鶹Ƶ and I recognize and look forward to the tremendous challenge it will be to continue the success of 鶹Ƶ softball.”

Blackstock has been at 鶹Ƶ for 31 years. During those years, he has served as athletic director, women’s basketball coach, baseball coach, and has taught classes in the Physical Education, Wellness, and Sport Department.

鶹Ƶ University President, Dr. David S. Dockery states, “David Blackstock is and has been the face on the 鶹Ƶ athletic department for many years. Coach Blackstock embodies the best of the values of this university and once again he will have an opportunity to pass those along directly to our student-athletes.” Dockery goes on to say, “I am grateful for Coach Blackstock's willingness to provide leadership for the women's softball program. The program is one of the finest in the nation among NAIA institutions and given Dr Blackstock's success in the past in baseball and basketball, I have no doubt that the softball program is in for great days ahead.”

After graduating from 鶹Ƶ 1964, he attended Memphis State University where he earned a Master of Education degree in 1967. He then moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where he received his doctorate from the University of Southern Mississippi. Blackstock then returned to 鶹Ƶ in 1973 as athletic director and instructor in the physical education department.

Blackstock took over the baseball program in 1975 where he, along with then co-head coach Linn Strannak, guided the team to a third place finish in the 1983 NAIA World Series, the only world series appearance for 鶹Ƶ. During his 11 years as baseball coach, Blackstock guided 鶹Ƶ to a 288-170 (.628).

Blackstock also spent 17 seasons at the helm of the women’s basketball program at 鶹Ƶ, where he compiled a 509-89 overall record, and led his team to the 1998 NAIA National Championship. Numerous accomplishments have been a part of his athletics career. Blackstock was named NAIA Coach of the Year in 1998 and was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1999. For his efforts as athletic director during the 2003-04 season, Blackstock was voted the TranSouth Conference AD of the Year.
