Before Â鶹ÊÓƵ: Matos played football at Lewis County High School prior to coming to Â鶹ÊÓƵ. While at Lewis County, Matos set the school record with most field goals in a game (3), which is second highest in the state of Tennessee. He was named All-Region for his efforts on the football field. In Brazil, Matos played soccer for Colegio Jardim das Nacoes. He was a member of the teams that won championships in the spring games in 2000-2002.
