Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Favored in 2007 TranSouth Cross Country Pre-Season Polls

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/12/2007 - The 2007 TranSouth Conference Cross Country Pre-Season poll has been released. Both Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University teams are favored to repeat as league champions. The pre-season poll is voted by the cross country head coaches.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has won the TranSouth Title one the women’s side four straight years and are coming off their first ever NAIA Region XI Title. On the men’s side, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is looking for their fourth straight conference title.

Completing the women’s pre-season poll is Crichton College (Tenn.) at No. 2, followed by Lyon College (Ark.), Bethel College (Tenn.), Blue Mountain College (Miss.), and Lambuth University (Tenn.). In 2006, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s team qualified for the NAIA National Tournament.

The men’s poll has Lyon picked second, followed by Bethel, Lambuth, Crichton, and Blue Mountain. In 2006, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ and Lyon were both represented in the NAIA National Tournament with individual qualifiers.

The NAIA polls were also released with the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ women’s team receiving votes in the No. 28 position. No other TranSouth team was listed.

The 2007 cross country season for a few TranSouth teams started last week, with the rest of the team beginning competition over the next few weeks. Cross Country schedule for each conference team can be found online at www.transouth.org. Fans can also follow the NAIA region and national rankings at www.naia.org.

Women
The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Lady Bulldogs are coming off their best season in the history of the program. The team captured their fourth straight TranSouth Title, but also won the NAIA Region XI Championship. The team qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the first time, after numerous individuals had qualified in past years. This year’s team is poised defend their conference and region crown. Four returning players, including Candace Cross, a former conference runner of the year and national qualifier, Charlie Moss, and Lydia Bond, former All-Conference and All-Region performers will give Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ solid leadership. Two newcomers, Ellen Boone and Kayla Hauss join the team in hopes of continuing the excellence of the program.
Men
The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ men look for their fourth straight conference title, while looking to improve on last year’s region runner-up finish. The Bulldogs have three returning players. Phillip Thompson, a former TranSouth Runner of the Year and national qualifier, joins Douglas Martin, a national qualifier and All-Region performer, and Seth Covington, an All-Region runner, to lead Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ as they defend their conference championship. Three newcomers, Steve Bredfeldt, Henry Rop, and Nelphat Boit, look to help put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ over the top in this year’s region meet.
