Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Women's Soccer Falls Short in Battle with No. 9 Bethel

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/4/2007 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldog soccer team came up short in an upset bid of No. 9 Bethel College (Tenn.) in a match at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's soccer field. Bethel defeated Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ 4-0, after leading 1-0 at the half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ drops to 2-2 on the season and 0-1 in TranSouth play, while Bethel remains undefeated at 3-0 overall and 1-0 in league play.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ allowed an early goal to Bethel in the seventh minute of play. However, over the next 44 mintues, the two teams would play scoreless soccer. Early in the second half, Bethel posted two goals in a span of two minutes to put the game away. A final goal for Bethel was scored with 10 minute to go.

Florence Iweta score the first goal for Bethel. Leah O'Grady added the final three goals for the Lady Wilcats.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ goalie Laura Pla, last week's TranSouth and NAIA Player of the Week, recorded 17 saves on the night. Bethel's goalie, Ugo Opara, tallied seven saves in the match on her way to the shutout.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be another home conference match as the Lady Bulldogs host Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) on Tuesday, September 11 at 6:00 pm.
