JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/21/2007 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University women's soccer team opened their third season of varsity competition with a 7-1 win over NCAA Div. II Christian Brothers University (Tenn.). The Lady Bulldogs soccer team has now won the season opener in each of their first three seasons.
After a scoreless first 25 minutes of play, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ exploded for three goals in a span of 10 minutes to take a 3-0 lead. Christian Brothers added posted their only goal of the match just before half. In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added four more goals including a penalty kick goal by sophomore Candice Blackard.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ received goals from Caitlin Zimmerman (2), Nikki Burau, Sam Gase, Brooke Walker, Eboni Murphy, and Blackard. Gase and Murphy are both freshman for the Lady Bulldogs. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ goalie, Laura Pla recorded seven saves in 80 minutes of play. Katie Moser finished the game between the post.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ plays again this Saturday in Shreveport, Louisiana versus LSU-Shreport. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's next home match will be Tuesday, September 4 versus TranSouth and area rival Bethel College (Tenn.).
