Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Softball Defeats No. 11 Martin Methodist 7-0

JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/31/2007 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldog softball team posted a 7-0 win over No. 11 Martin Methodist College (Tenn.) RedHawks on Saturday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, who is receiving votes at No. 30 in the latest NAIA rankings, moved to 20-9 on the season and 12-5 in the TranSouth. The loss dropped the RedHawks to 23-4 on the year and 12-1 in league play.

The second game of the schedule double-header was called due to rain before it started. The game will be made up at a later date. Check the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ website for updated schedule information as it becomes available.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the bottom helped by a lead-off double by Amy Chatham and three RedHawk Errors. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ added another run in the third and two more each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Cassie Turley improved to 9-6 on the season with seven innings of work, allowing just two hits and no runs with six strikeouts. Leading Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ offensively was Chatham going 3-for-4 day with two runs and one RBI. Ashley Walters, Kristen Kirk, and Candace Cross added two hits each for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ.

Martin Methodist hurler Liz Adams (10-2) took the loss, by allowing seven runs, of which only four were earned, and 11 hits over her six innings of work.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be their Spring Break trip to Florida where they will play Florida Southern University on Monday and Webber International University on Tuesday.
