Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Baseball Splits Double-Header with No. 6 Trevecca Nazarene

JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/24/2007 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Bulldogs split with Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) on Saturday losing the first game 5-2 and winning game two 6-1. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ goes to 17-10 on the season and 5-7 in the TranSouth. Trevecca Nazarene, ranked No. 6 in the latest NAIA rankings, moves to 28-7-1 overall and 11-1 in the TranSouth.

The win by Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ marked the first loss of the year for the Trojans in TranSouth Conference play. Trevecca Nazarene took the three game weekend series two games to one with a 5-2 win over Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ on Friday night.

Humboldt native James Brasfield tossed a complete game four-hitter to moved to 3-1 on the season for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. Brasfield tallied three strikeouts and walked none on this way to the win. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out early with two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run homer by Shaun Cozart. This was the first lead of the series for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ. The Bulldogs added a run in the bottom of the third inning, before Trevecca Nazarene answered with their only run of the second game in the fourth inning. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ tacked on three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning capped off by an RBI single by former Humboldt standout Judson Powers. Powers and Munford native Zach Lowery led Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ with two hits each in the game, with Cozart leading the way with two RBI. Trevecca Nazarene senior and last week's NAIA Pitcher of the Week, Eric Van Slyke (8-2) took the loss allowing six runs on six hits, five walks, and six strikeouts. Erick House led the Trojans with two hits in the game.

Game one saw Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ fall behind 3-0 before scoring a run in the bottom of the second. The Trojans added two more runs and led 5-1, but the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rally fell short with just one run in the bottom of the fifth. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ left 10 runners on base in the game. The Bulldogs were led by Cozart and Kyle Blackwood with two hits in the game, while Tyler Porter and Powers posted an RBI each. Trevecca Nazarene was led by Wade Angel and Chris Lowe with three hits each. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Bryan Wagner (1-2) took the loss, giving up five runs over five innings pitched. Josh Holman tossed two innings of scoreless relief. Trevecca Nazarene's Barrett Brown moved to 4-1 on the year with six innings of work allowing four hits, two runs, and striking out six batters. Steven Brown recorded his fifth save of the season with a scoreless seventh inning.
