JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/23/2007 - Greg Abram of Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University posted the first no-hitter for a Bulldog pitcher since the 1994 season as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ swept Huntington University (Ind.) 11-1 and 10-1 on Friday afternoon. With the wins Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 7-3 on the season. Huntington fell to 1-2 on the year.
Over the past five games, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ has averaged 11.6 runs per game and has won four of those five games.
In game one, Kirkwood Community College and Arizona native Greg Abram recorded a no-hitter over six innings as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ defeated Huntington 11-1. The only run for Huntington can in the fourth inning when Thad Frame reach base on a throwing error by Abram. Frame would later score on a ground ball out. Abram (2-2) tossed six innings with four strikeouts and one walk.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s offense was sparked by senior Munford native, Zach Lowery. Lowery put Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ up 4-0 early with a grand slam in the second inning. Humboldt native Judson Powers went 3-for-3 on the day while Lowery, Allen Williams, and Cody Willoughby each added two hits.
Game two saw Huntington strike first with a run in the top of the second. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, however, rallied in the bottom of the second with three runs. Josiah Enyart posted a two-RBI triple followed by an RBI single by Kyle Blackwood. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted two more in the third inning, four in the fifth, and one in the sixth to complete the sweep.
Clint Arthur (3-0) went six innings, allowing five hits, one run, while striking out three and walking none. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Powers continued his hot hitting from game one by posting a 3-for-4 game. Shaun Cozart and Jason Cooper added two hits each. Enyart tallied three RBI in the game.
Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a single game on Saturday, February 24 at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ as the Bulldogs go for the series sweep over Huntington. Game time is set for 12:00 noon.
