Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Allen Received Second Straight Pitcher of the Week Honor

Jackson, Tenn. - 4/29/2002 - Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University’s Blake Allen was named the TranSouth Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week. Allen, from Humboldt, Tennessee, went 1-0 for the week and gave Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ their 40th win of the season.

Allen, a junior lefthander, defeated NCAA-II opponent Christian Brothers University to up his record to 6-1 on the season. In the game, he pitched nine innings and tallied 12 strikeouts and allowed six hits. Allen’s 2.67 ERA leads Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s squad and sixth in the TranSouth. His 68 strikeouts are second on the team and seventh in the conference. In 8 starts this season, Allen has tossed three complete games and has thrown 57.1 innings in 13 appearances.

After undergoing minor surgery during the first week of the season, Allen sat out for four weeks to rehab. In late March, Allen returned to the mound, but in a relievers roll. Once his strength had returned, he began to start again for the Bulldogs. Allen has been nothing but dominate this season with opponents batting only .207 against him. Last season, Allen was an all-conference performer and is on pace to repeat that feat again this season.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, the 2002 TranSouth Conference Champions, open up the TranSouth tournament on Wednesday as 3:30 p.m. as they will play the winner of Lyon College and Martin Methodist College. The Bulldogs already have a spot in next weeks NAIA Region XI tournament in Lebanon, Tenn.
