No. 6 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Tops Bethel for 12th Straight Win

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/13/2007 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs came away with an 81-65 win over Bethel College (Tenn.) for their 12th straight victory. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improved to 21-4 overall and a league best 12-2 conference record. Bethel dropped to 13-11 on the season and 4-10 in the TranSouth.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ started the game with an 18-0 run before Bethel stopped the drought with a free throw seven minutes into the game. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 20-1 when Bethel tallied their first field goal of the game just inside the 11 minute mark of the first half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 38-17 at the half and led by as many as 31 points midway through the second half.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ranks No. 1 in the NAIA in field goal percentage at 51-percent, however, mananged just 30-percent in the first half. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ recoved with 55-percent shooting in the second half to finish the game at 40-percent. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ made 50-percent (7-14) from behind the arc and just 53-percent (14-26) from the free throw line.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Natanya Smith with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Ena Daniels added 16 points, Josephine Owino scored 15 points, and Crystal Eason added 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc.

Bethel was led by Nina Djokovic with 15 points. Amanda Cunningham and Suzanne Seat added 11 points each. Bethel shot 39-percent from the field, 36-percent (5-14) from three-point range, and 77-percent (10-13) from behind the free throw line.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be two road games. First is a trip to Blue Mountain College (Miss.) on Thursday night at 7:00 pm. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ then travels down to Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) on Saturday for a 2:00 pm game.
