No. 7 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Defeats No. 9 Trevecca Nazarene 97-70

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/3/2007 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs tallied their ninth straight win in big fashion with a 97-70 win over Trevecca Nazarene University (Tenn.) on Saturday. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, 18-4 overall and ranked No. 7 in the NAIA, moved into sole possession of first place in the TranSouth standings at 9-2. The ninth ranked Trevecca Nazarene Lady Trojans, now 17-4 on the season, dropped to second place with an 8-3 record in league play.

This win for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ is their second straight win over an NAIA Top-10 team as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ knocked off No. 10 Cumberland on Thursday night, 82-69.

The Lady Bulldogs improved on their NAIA No. 3 scoring average (83.2 points per game) as they exploded for 97 points. The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ team has eight of their nine players averaging double figures on the season.

In the second highest scoring half of the season, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ posted 55 first half points as they took a 55-26 lead at the break. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ scored the first four points of the game and then quickly jumped out to a 17-4 lead over the first five minute of play. The Lady Bulldogs continued their hot shooting in the first half as they kept building their lead up to 31 points at 55-24 in the final minute of the first half.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA in field goal percentage and No. 3 in the NAIA in 3-pt percentage, shot 68-percent from the field in the first half and made 7-of-7 three pointers in the first 20 minutes.

The second half started with Trevecca Nazarene trying to get back into the game with an 18-11 run to cut the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ lead to 22 points at the 14:34 mark. However, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ proved that this day belong to them as the Lady Bulldogs responded with 23-8 run to post their biggest lead of the game at 37 points, 87-50, with 7:26 left to play. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ cruised over the final seven minutes to take the 97-70 win.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ finished the game shooting 55-percent for the game and 60-percent (9-15) from behind the arc. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ made 14-of-23 (61-percent) from the free throw line. Trevecca Nazarene shot 39-percent from the field, including 27-percent (3-of-11) from behind the arc. The Lady Trojans made 29-of-37 (78-percent) from the free throw line.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won the rebound battle 44-25, including 21-11 on the offensive boards.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by Crystal Eason with 20 points, including 6-of-7 three pointers. D.J. Sissoko posted a double-double with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Jessica Graves added 13 points, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc, Ena Daniels scored 12 points, and Josephine Owino tallied 10 points. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s leading scorer Kaitlin Dudley scored just four points on the night as all nine players entered the scoring column on the night.

Trevecca Nazarene was led by Kristin Archie with 17 points. Jennifer Bognar added 14 points, while Christian Gibson and Mariska Reed added 10 points each. Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a road game at Mid-Continent University in Mayfield, Kentucky on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
