Â鶹ÊÓƵ's Basketball Teams Ranked 12th in Latest NAIA Poll

JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/17/2007 - Â鶹ÊÓƵ University's men's basketball team jump one spot in the latest NAIA poll to No. 12, while the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Lady Bulldogs dropped two spots to No. 12.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ's men have won three games in a row and four of their first five conference games of the season. Â鶹ÊÓƵ is sitting in second place in the league, just one game back of the conference leader. Â鶹ÊÓƵ is 11-4 on the season and 4-1 in league play. Â鶹ÊÓƵ will face two tough games this week as they play host to No. 22 Crichton College (Tenn.) on Thursday night at 8:00 pm and then will host rival Freed-Hardeman University on Saturday at 4:00 pm.

In other notes on the week for Â鶹ÊÓƵ's men, senior center Pierry Valmera was named the TranSouth Conference Player of the Week for the second time the season. Valmera surpassed 1,000-career points earlier in the season and now has over 1,100 points and 600 rebounds for his career. Also, with the win over Bethel College last Saturday, Â鶹ÊÓƵ's head coach Ralph Turner earned his 300th career victory. His current records stands at 301-126 (.705).

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ Lady Bulldogs dropped two spots despite posting a three game winning streak. The happened because of the shift in how the conference voted the top three teams. Last week Â鶹ÊÓƵ was ranked second in the league, but after the top team Cumberland lost to Trevecca Nazarene, Â鶹ÊÓƵ was dropped to No. 3 in the league behind Trevecca Nazarene and Cumberland. Â鶹ÊÓƵ plays Blue Mountain College (Miss.) on Thursday night at home at 6:00 pm. However, the game of the week comes happens on Saturday, January 20 when Â鶹ÊÓƵ will host No. 14 Freed-Hardeman University at 2:00 pm.
