Â鶹ÊÓƵ Sweeps TranSouth Cross Country Titles, Women Win Region XI Title

JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/4/2006 -

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ University Lady Bulldog cross country team won their first NAIA Region XI Meet on Saturday. With this win, the Lady Bulldog team earns an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship Meet in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday, November 18. The Â鶹ÊÓƵ women's team has sent six total individual qualifiers to the nationals in the eight-year history of the program, including at least one in each of the past five years. This marks the first time a Â鶹ÊÓƵ cross country team has qualified for the nationals.

Â鶹ÊÓƵ City native Jill Konkol took the individual region championship as she posted a time of 18:46.74 in the 5K event. Â鶹ÊÓƵ posted three of the top 10 finishes.

Also included in the region results were the TranSouth Conference results. For the fourth straight season, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Lady Bulldogs are TranSouth Conference Champions.

On the men's side, Â鶹ÊÓƵ posted their highest finish in the NAIA Region XI Meet with a second place finish. In doing so, three members of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ men's team earned spots as individual qualifiers to the NAIA National Championship Meet on Saturday November 18 in Louisville, Ky. John Fox (2nd place), Douglas Martin (3rd Place), and Phillip Thompson (8th place) each earn spots. For Thompson, this is his third trip to the nationals as an individual qualifier. John Fox qualified last season but couldn't run due to injury. This will be the first trip for Martin who missed qualifying last season by one spot.

Like the women's race, the TranSouth results were also pulled from the men's region results. Â鶹ÊÓƵ's men captured their third straight TranSouth Conference Championship.
