JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/4/2006 - The No. 1 ranked Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs defeated St. Gregory's University (Okla.) 86-37 in the 2006-07 season opener. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improves to 1-0 on the year while St. Gregory's falls to 1-1 on the season.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ led 35-16 at the half, then followed with 51 second half points to roll to the victory. After sinking a respectable 5-of-13 first half three pointers, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ made 9-of-15 three's in the second half to finish the game making 14-of-28 for 50-percent. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led with five players in double figures. Freshman standout out from Gibson County led all scorers with 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting form three point range. Crystal Eason added 15 points, Josephine Owino scored 13 points, while Merideth Richardson and Natanya Smith added 11 points each. Smith also grabbed 11 rebounds to complete her double-double.
St. Gregory's was led by Marjana Gojkovic with eight points.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ shot 50-percent from the field, 50-percent form behind the arc, and 67-percent (4-of-6) from the free throw line. The Lady Bulldogs held St. Gregory's to just 36-percent shooting from the field and 18-percent (2-of-11) from behind the arc. St. Gregory's made 5-of-7 free throws for 71-percent.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ begins their string of five straight games versus ranked NAIA teams as they host No. 5 ranked Houston Baptist University on Tuesday, November 7 at 7:00 pm.
