Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Tops Lambuth Conference Volleyball Match

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/16/2006 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldogs, receiving votes at the No. 28 spot in the latest NAIA rankings, topped their crosstown rival Lambuth University 3-0 (30-23, 30-26, 30-17). With the victory, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ wins their fifth in a row to move to 21-4 overall and 8-3 in the TranSouth. Lambuth falls to 17-9 overall and 6-4 in the conference.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ took the first game 30-23, but found themselves down and in trouble in the second game. Lambuth jumped out to a 15-5 lead before the Lady Bulldogs posted a 25-11 run to close out the game. That momentum carried over to the third and final game as Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ won 30-17.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Monica Schirmer with 17 kills, two aces, and three blocks. Elena Villagomez added nine kills, four aces, and four blocks. Amanda Hutchison tallied nine kills, one ace, and seven blocks. Edith Mendoza totaled nine kills, two aces, and five blocks. This week's TranSouth Setter of the Week, Purity Ogolla, added 38 assists.

Up next for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will be a tri-match at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ on Tuesday, October 17. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will host conference foe Bethel College at 3:00 pm and then will play non-conference Williams Baptist College (Ark.) at 7:00 pm. Bethel and Williams Baptist will face off at 5:00 pm.
