JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/4/2006 - After a 1-0-1 week versus NAIA Top-10 teams, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ University men’s soccer program jumped up to the No. 9 spot in the latest . This No. 9 ranking marks the highest ranking for the men’s soccer program in the short nine-year history of the program. The previous high mark was a No. 13 ranking during the 1999 season when the Bulldogs started the season 11-0. This also marked their first ever No. 1 Region XI ranking.
This past week, Â鶹ÊÓƵ played then No. 7 ranked Mid-Continent University (Ky.) to a 1-1 double overtime tie in an important TranSouth Conference match. Four days later, Â鶹ÊÓƵ posted the biggest win in the program’s history with a 2-1 overtime win versus the No. 1 team in the NAIA, Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.). This win helped heal numerous ills as Lindsey Wilson ended the Bulldog’s season in each of the past two years during the region tournament. Last season, Lindsey Wilson topped Â鶹ÊÓƵ 3-1 in the region championship game on the way to their NAIA National Title.
On the season, Â鶹ÊÓƵ is 6-1-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the TranSouth Conference. The Bulldog’s only blemish came in a 1-0 loss at Lyon College, a match in which Â鶹ÊÓƵ out-shot their opponent, 19-2.
Up next for the Â鶹ÊÓƵ Bulldogs will be a non-conference match at Belhaven College (Miss.) on Thursday. Â鶹ÊÓƵ then closes out the season with important conference matches at Lambuth, home against Cumberland and Crichton, and then on the road to close out the year at Bethel.
