Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ Volleyball Gives Freed-Hardeman First Loss

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/2/2006 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Volleyball team defeated the Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lions on Monday night 3-2 (31-29, 30-21, 14-30, 21-30, 15-11) at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Fred DeLay Gymnasium. With the win, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ improves to 15-2 overall and 6-2 in the TranSouth. The loss marked the first of the season for Freed-Hardeman as they drop to 11-1 overall and 5-1 in league play.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ jumped out to an early two games to none lead. However, with the score tied at 7-7 in the third game, Freed-Hardeman went on an 12-to-1 run to pull away steal Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's momentum. The Lady Lions took that momentum into the fourth game and evened the match at two games each. But Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was able to rally the troops. With score of the fifth and final game standing at 7-6 in favor of Freed-Hardeman, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ rolled off an 8-4 run to earn the win.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Monica Schirmer with 18 kills. Amanda Hutchison added 17 kills while Edith Mendoza and Elena Villagomez added 10 kills each. Hutchison led with eight blocks. Purity Ogolla, this week's TranSouth setter of the week led the way with 53 assists. Ogolla and Schirmer posted two aces each.

There is no rest for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ as they travel to Nashville on Tuesday, October 3 for another conference match versus Trevecca Nazarene University. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ defeated Trevecca Nazarene 3-1 in a meeting at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ last week.
