Bulldogs win Second Straight TranSouth Tennis Championship; Lady Bulldogs Finish Second

Rome, GA - 4/20/2002 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men’s tennis team has won their second consecutive TranSouth Conference Tournament Championship. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ defeated Berry College 5-3 in the championship match to capture the crown. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was also the TranSouth regular season champion.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ, ranked No. 12 in the NAIA swept the three doubles matches to secure the win. No. 14 Berry College won each of the 1, 2, and 3 seed matches. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will now play in the NAIA Region XI Tournament and try for their second consecutive Region XI tournament championship and yet another trip to the NAIA National Tournament. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ ups its record to 17-2 on the season.

Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s Lady Bulldog tennis team fell to Lee in the TranSouth Tournament Championship match by the score of 5-3. No. 21 Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was Tri-Champions for the regular season with Martin Methodist and Lee, each with a 4-1 record. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµâ€™s No. 1 and 2 players, Ashley Young and Veronica Cortes each won their matches, however, Lee won the remaining singles and 2 of 3 double matches. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ overall record falls to 16-6 on the season.
