JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/18/2006 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University Lady Bulldog volleyball team improved to 10-0 on the season with a 3-2 (30-22, 21-30, 30-15, 22-30, 15-11) win over Bethel College (Tenn.) This game meant more this year than just a West Tennessee rival game as the Bethel Wildcats joined the TranSouth Conference during the offseason. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ goes to 10-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Bethel falls to 6-6 overall and 1-5 in league play.
The 10-0 start is currently 5th best all-time in the 9-year history of the Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ volleyball program (2001: 14-0, 1999: 14-0, 1998: 14-0, 2003: 11-0, 2006: 10-0).
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ was led by Jackson native Amanda Hutchison with 22 kills. Monica Schirmer added 12 kills while Elena Villagomez tallied 11 kills.
Early in conference play, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ sits in a tie atop the TranSouth standings with Martin Methodist College at 2-0.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will play another rival match with added significance as they host new TranSouth member and crosstown rival Lambuth University at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Fred DeLay Gymnasium on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.
