JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/28/2006 - The Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University men's soccer team opened the 2006 season with a 7-2 win over Southeastern University (Fla.) on Monday night to go to 1-0 on the season. In the NAIA preseason rankings, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ received votes, coming in at the No. 29 spot.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ trailed 1-0 early, but rallied to scored two goals before halftime to take a 2-1 lead at the break. Seniors Kirk Childers and Duncan Nicol gave Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ the first half lead that they would not give up. In the second half, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ got it's third goal by an own goal from Southeastern. After the second Southeastern goal of the game, Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ expoded, scoring the final four goals in a span of 15 minutes to earn the 7-2 win. Childers added his second goal of the game, followed by a goal by Benny Crozier, and two goals by Wagner Oliveira. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Chris Lean played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves. Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ held Southeastern to just four shots on the day.
Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ will remain in Florida for a match versus Clearwater Christian College on Tuesday, August 29 at 4:30 pm.
